I declared war...while already at war?

Hey guys. I finally got the hang of Superpower 2 a bit, and was experimenting with Nigeria. After craig's economic guide made my economy go into overdrive, I decided to turn myself into a superpower, nukes and all. Turns out that was a bad idea, as instantly my relations with the whole world soured when I started to research nukes. Okay, I figured, who cares! I had one of the strongest land armies in the world.

None of it was deployed though, and I feared I would be invaded. So I deployed some of it (about 2000 ground units and 100,000 infantry, all elite). That turned out to be the worst idea, as a bunch of countries instantly declared war on me. Around 20 of them, most of them weak african states, but some like India, Japan, and Taiwan (or Republic Of China?) had declared war on me.

They invaded with a ridiculous of amount of infantry and slightly more ground units then I had. But, surprisingly, my elite army (with some assistance from untrained units that were still part of an unfinished queue) fended them all off, save the ships off my coast.

The biggest alliance at war with me, that numbered 17 countries, allowed me to sign a peace treaty with them. So that was over, but I was still in another 3 wars. India, Japan, and Taiwan were in one alliance against me, but I also had separate wars with india and japan. Since they weren't asking for peace, I decided to counter-attack and invade japan first.

Well, when I did, the message box said I declared war on japan and instantly the rest of the world was at war with me. Is this working as intended? I can't get peace nor can I invade them without 'declaring war'.

I think it may that if you choose "Attack" insted of "Move" on a enemy unit you will declare a seperate war. Also if you choose "Occupy Territory" i think also declares a seperate war.

So the only thing i can think of, is to choose "Move" function to attack and occupy.
You can also invest some money in Foreign Aid, and make good relations with the world before and after investing in nukes. Cultural exchange and maybe some alliances.

My experience is that the world easily can gang up on you if you start declaring wars, annexing, nuke programs and etc. If you have very good relations with powerfull countries it usally will help you alot.

That worked. I have Japan occupied and india tried to stop me and I destroyed the rest of their army and they accepted peace.

Now all that's left is what to do with japan. Annexing it pisses off the world too much, and I can't find a way to release it as a puppet or an ally. Is that possible?

Im not sure what you mean? Release Japan from you, you mean? Or make Japan loose its alliances?

Yea, release it from me. I currently occupy it, but I don't want to annex it. I also would prefer not to just sign a free region treaty with it, as that wouldn't change my relations with it. I'd like an ally in a world that hates me

The only thing i then can come to think of is to change its government type. But this may not make the relationship much better, i dont know how its calculated tbh.
If a country is very red it may take some time to make the relationship good.

The only fast way is to give alot of money,technology or a region, but again it varies on how much you have to give each country to make them happy, depends on how rich they are. The richer the more money.

Slow way is what i mentioned before, cultural exchange, foreign aid and such.
